A dental restoration is used when your natural teeth are missing or a gap is present following an extraction.
The bridge uses the support of your natural teeth (which are crowned or used as anchors to stick to) and the synthetic ceramic teeth sit in-between, bridging the gap. In some cases, a tooth may not need to be crowned to support the presence of the synthetic tooth if it is deemed to be healthy and strong enough. This can mean gaps are replaced in a minimally invasive way. This type of bridge is sometimes referred to as a Maryland bridge.
